Satish Kaushik is a multifaceted Indian film director, producer, and actor, who has made a significant contribution to the Indian film industry for more than three decades. With his unique sense of humor and storytelling skills, he has successfully carved out a niche for himself in the world of Indian cinema.
Satish Kaushik was born on April 13, 1956, in Mahendragarh, Haryana. He started his career as a theater actor in Delhi in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1981, he moved to Mumbai to try his luck in the film industry. Initially, he struggled to get a foothold in the industry and worked as an assistant director with Shekhar Kapur on the movie "Masoom" (1983).
Satish Kaushik made his acting debut in the movie "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro" (1983), where he played the role of "Calendar," a drunkard photographer. The movie was a huge hit and is now considered a cult classic. He went on to act in several movies in the 1980s and early 1990s, including "Mr. India" (1987), "Ram Lakhan" (1989), "Saajan Chale Sasural" (1996), and "Deewana Mastana" (1997).
In the mid-1990s, Satish Kaushik decided to try his hand at directing. He made his directorial debut with the movie "Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" (1993), which was a big-budget movie starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. The movie was a commercial failure and was heavily criticized by critics. However, Satish Kaushik did not loose hope and went to direct several movies, including "Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain" (1999), "Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai" (2001), and "Tere Naam" (2003). "Tere Naam" was a critical and commercial success and is now considered one of the best movies of his career.
Apart from directing and acting, Satish Kaushik is also a prolific writer and has written several screenplays, including "Saajan Chale Sasural" (1996), "Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai" (2000), and "Milenge Milenge" (2010). He has also produced several movies, including "Badhaai Ho Badhaai" (2002) and "Tere Naam" (2003).
Satish Kaushik has won several awards and accolades for his work in the Indian film industry. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Saajan Chale Sasural" (1996) and the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for "Tere Naam" (2003). He has also won the Screen Award for Best Comedian for his role in "Ram Lakhan" (1989) and the Zee Cine Award for Best Director for "Tere Naam" (2003).
In addition to his work in the Indian film industry, Satish Kaushik has also made a mark in Hollywood. He played a small role in the Hollywood movie "Brick Lane" (2007) and directed the Hollywood movie "Gang of Ghosts" (2014), which was a remake of his own Hindi movie "Bhootnath" (2008).
